Old News
Saturday Afternoon 20 December @ The Empress., with The Moustache Gamble. $5. Nicholson St North Fitzroy.
Line-up Changes..... 21/7/08
Sadly, the new mousetrap bassman Murray Pigdon will not be able to commit to the band due to his work commitments. We wish him all the best.
We will again search for a bass player, contact me for details.
Also, mousetrap painter Alice Palermo will be overseas for a few months with her dance/theatre group The Caravan of Love. They are heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
She'll be taking a break from mousetrapreplica up until october at the very earliest.
Importantly, there will not be any live painting at shows from now on unless we specifically say there will be.
I have been in discussions with Nella, the original mousetrap painter, and she will be able to play some shows, but not all of them.
Please take note that if you are a visual artist, painting/drawing/electronic, then I am certainly keen to hear from you with a possible view to working together.
This has been a very productive little transitional period, so I extend a big thankyou to all you have been coming to shows and supporting the band in general.
cheers
Ryan, (and on behalf of Gareth)
New Drummer, new Bassplayer and new gigs! 30/6/08
Welcome Mr. Gareth Thomson into the band on drum kit! He is sounding great, and will be bringing a new dimension to the sound of the band. I am very happy to have him on board.
He brings with him an old playing pal, Murray Pigdon, on electric bass. Boooooommmm.......
I must say a fond farewell to previous drummer and very good friend Nick Martyn, whose amazing playing has brought a massive change in the sound and direction of the project, I wish him all the best on his European tour with Unified Gecko.

Looking for a drummer/bass player/manager/booking persons....
Hi Folks. A update in the world of mousetrapreplica.....
* I am looking for a drummer to take over from Nick when he leaves for Istanbul in mid July. If you are a kickarse drummer, have your own transport, LOVE the music of mousetrapreplica, organised, then feel free to let me know so we can have a play and take it from there.
An ability to play tuned percussion, keyboard, sing, laptop or other instrument is a big advantage, ability to sight read a big advantage, willingness to get involved in promotion a big advantage. Let me know yo.
* I've also decided to get a bass player. I'd prefer a kickarse double bass player, great bowing and pizzicato chops owns and is confident using lots of effects pedals, can play crazy contemporary classical stuff, can GROOOVE, let me know. Electric bass players can also apply. Someone who could play both is ideal. I basically need someone with a Jazz and/or classical background.
* I have basically completed a live demo of the current mtr live set, which features 'Stabbing the Ashes' which is on the profile. I am happy to send this to anyone in the media who would like to hear it.
* I still haven't booked my CD Launch, so if you are a booker then I'd like to talk business.......
* Still looking for a manager, I'm going to need to get some grants this year so I can tour to Europe sometime in the next 12 months, I'd appreciated help with this and the rest of the existence of mousetrap!
Thanks for your continued support
Ryan
and on behalf of Alice and Nick.

This whole night will be amazing, and I am very excited to see Bar's new project....... Free entry too. No excuses folks!!!!
Back in Melbourne Town....... 2/4/07
We're back.........
We had an absolute blast on tour, played some killer shows, met some amazing human beings, played with some great bands.
Thanks to everyone who helped us out over the tour, gave us a couch to sleep on, helped promote the shows, came to the shows, and bought CDs.
Oh yeah, we have some INSANE road stories to share, come back in a week and I will have an extensive tour diary written up detailing our beautfiul highs and crushing lows......
There will also be a whole bunch of pics taken from our gigs and on the road and such.....
In other news, we will be working on the mixing of 6 live original tracks that Nick and I put down in the studio last month. This material is likely to be used as a killer demo recording
as we will be scouting for the support of a label in the near future, but then again many of our live takes are of such a standard that they could end up on the upcoming mousetrapreplica album.
So thanks again for your support, it is much appreciated.
Ryan, and on behalf of Nick and Alice

News...........
Before I get to the content of this blog I, might start by saying THANKS for taking an interest in this project. It's the greatest focus of my life, and it's going to be a damn hard slog to be able to achieve my goal of making a living off the artistic creations of mousetrapreplica. It can't happen without the support of appreciative music lovers like you. Thankyou.
Some news:
* Alice has gone to Canada to see family for a month, and when she gets back she will be performing in the Melbourne Comedy Festival with her dance/theatre group, 'The Caravan of Love.' They are incredible, check them out here http://www.caravanoflove.net/
She won't be painting with MTR 'til April as a result.
* Our Brisbane dates have disappeared from the East Coast tour. This is because, sadly, the Alley Bar will be closing it's doors in March, and secondly we would have a week to kill between our Sydney gig and the Brissy gig at the Troubador, which isn't financially viable for Justin and I. Justin and I will definitely be heading up there later on in 2008 to make up for it!
* Nick is heading to Europe in July, touring with Turkish groove band 'Unified Gecko,' for about 5 months. I am extremely pleased with his contributions behind the kit, and anyone who has seen us play together will attest to how massive MTR sounds now. So I am a bit sad to say that midway through the year I will again need to look for a new drummer, but on the upside.......
* ....we will be recording a full length album containing music from our live set, which contains the tunes: 'maybe stars,' 'Elegy for the Restless Ghosts,' Sakura-Sakura,' 'Chi Mai,' 'Stabbing the Ashes,' 'The Rains,' and an untitled new composition(which is possibly my favourite!). We start recording before we go on tour.
* Once we get back to Melbourne town in April, we will begin a period of heavy gigging, leading up to a CD launch in June. The CD launch will be for the two current discs, though it might also include the one we are about to record; a triple CD launch!!!!
* there are heaps of MTR merch items in the works, stickers, T-Shirts, badges and such.....
and thanks again for your support.
peace
PBS Interview Link
For those of you who weren't able to listen to the mousetrapreplica feature on PBS, you can hear it via their Radio on Demand feature. Here's how you do it:
* Go to the PBS website
* click on the listen live button in the top right hand corner.
* You may need to sign up to the website at this point, go through with that(don't worry, they won't spam you!)
* then I think you click on the "on air now" or "listen live" buttons. A new browser window will jump up and start streaming the live radio through Windows Media Player(I'm not sure what it uses with Mac's)
* To listen to the interview, click on the button that says 'Radio on Demand' in the top left hand corner.
* If you don't have Real Player, you'll have to download it, I'm not sure what the case is if you're a mac user.
* Then choose the show, 'The Opening,' then choose the show dated 20/01/08.
* Voila! I hope.

Thanks to everyone who made the effort to see the shows at Brunswick Arts Space. I am truly proud of what Alice and I have created over the six months we have been playing together,
and these shows at the arts space have been a wonderful cherry on top of everything else we've done! A special thanks to the lovely people at Brunswick Arts Space, it was fantastic to have people around who are truly supportive of what we are doing, helping us every step of the way.

21/9/07 Any amazing drummers out there?
It's time for expanding mousetrapreplica, could you be the elusive drummer I seek? I would like someone to play my original compositions, as well as doing some improvising together, which will include Alice Palermo on live painting. I will be able to pay you a modest fee for performances and rehearsals.
Things I am looking for:
* My favourite drummers include Tony Buck, Joey Baron, Will Guthrie and Han Bennink.
* Favourite bands: Zappa, dilinger escape plan, masada, the necks, boards of canada, Shostakovich, Arvo Part, Stravinsky
* You need to be able to improvise, in the style of bands like the Necks and Cobra.
* You need to be able to read music.
* A lot of the mousetrapreplica material does not have strong drum beats, so I need someone who can play in an ambient fashion, and keep it interesting. Tuned percussion would be a bonus.
* Someone who can listen
* Some one who can play rock like a rock drummer, and jazz like a jazz drummer.
* someone comfortable in odd time signatures.
* Some tunes will need a click track
contact me for further details
hope to hear from you soon! below is a description of the fun you're in for.....

Which sounds like this
ps. this is the MOST technically demanding thing I will ask you to play.....
18/09/07 - Pics
I have an images page now. It features some of Alice's paintings from recent live shows.
They will be shown at a gallery sometime, and be for sale. If you would like to purchase one please email me.
4/09/07 - News........
Well, other than the recently added September show at the Stork, there isn't going to be a whole lot going on in mousetrap land in the current month.
I am however, putting the finishing touches on the 2 albums, and curently booking an exhibition/performance event which should occur late october/early november.
I have also composed some new material which I can proudly say is the best stuff of the whole mousetrapreplica catalogue at present.
Watch this space for the CD launch announcements too...

Welcome Alice!
I am very happy to announce that my good friend Alice Palermo has joined mousetrapreplica to do live visuals, primarily painting and drawing onstage.
Having a live painter was always a big priority for me this year and I am extremely confident that I have found the right person for the job.
I have known Alice for several years now and she is very familiar with my music, and I am excited about what we will be creating together.
We played our first gig last saturday. It was killer. There will be lots more.
peace
